SETTING THINGS RIGHT

Part 2

"You know that you're going to have to see her sometime. Let her know that you're still alive. Hell, she'd still love you, and you know it."

"Cody, I said shut up. I'm not going to, not right now anyway. She deserves better, a whole man."

"So when are you going to tell her, after she finds someone else. That would be worse than what you've already done. She deserves to know that you are alive and not buried in Virginia. She loves you. I've seen the hell she's gone thru. And she needs the truth, she wouldn't love you any less, knowing her she'd probably love you more."

"It's too late, anyway, I think she's done found someone else," Kid said as he pointed toward the window where the couple was embracing.

"Well, it's your fault, you should have never let her believe you were dead." Cody sneered at his friend. "Now your worst fears of the past are coming true."

"What?!" Kid rounded on Cody.

"That man up there, well, that just happens to be our good friend Jimmy."

The emotions that ran across Kid's face finally shut up his friend, for once. In Kid's eyes were memories of the past. All the times he had argued with Jimmy over Lou.

"Kid, I'm sorry, but you have let her believe you're dead. And maybe he's just being a friend.

Kid turned back to the window, " you don't kiss a friend like that, Cody." With that he limped away into the dark. The leg that was once strong, now dragging behind useless.

"Oh, boy." Cody thought. He knew only one person who could possibly help. He started toward the telegraphy office. Banging on the door brought the aggravated operator to the door. " I need to send a telegraph."

"At this time of night, is it an emergency?" the operator snapped.

"You could say that." Cody lied.

"Then come on in, but make it quick, I need my sleep."

Cody filled out the form. It read, "Big trouble come quick. Whippoorwill Canyon. Need help. Lou, Jimmy, and Kid in trouble."

"Send this to these people. Buck Cross at the Sioux Reservation and Mr. and Mrs. Teaspoon Hunter in Texas."

"Ok, first thing in the morning." The operator replied.

"NO, now," Cody almost shouted.

"Ok, ok," the operator said, "but your friends won't get this till tomorrow anyway."

"Now." Cody said with venom in his voice.

When the operator was finished Cody thanked him and left. Now all he had to do was wait on Teaspoon, Rachel and Buck. Together they would be able to straighten this mess out. Least ways he hoped they would. Right now thought he had to find Kid before he picked a fight or got drunk again.
